Why “Gerow”?
Gerow was a custodian at Rolph Street Public School along with other schools in the region during his career. Many generations of Rolph Street students remember him fondly. He was known for handing out sweets to students, helping students with things such as opening pudding cans at lunch, caring for class hamsters, building leaf forts and creating a fair in the basement of the school. One student recalls "He had a way of making every child feel special.”
